#338 OperaShawn AutomaShawn

Well today was a much better day!

I was SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO productive!  OH MY GOD!

Look, if I *HAVE* to be in the office, there is nothing I love better than a day where I get a poop-load of things done.  Files and folders emptied and re-filled.  Changes, and Excels, and print Jobs and Scans.

Tomorrow is Friday and I believe I'll be able to just coast to 5 pm.

#262 ExhaustShawn

Today was a double edges sword, pressed firmly at my neck.

Sure I was ecstatic that Typhoid Mary called in sick today.

But the thing is she didn't even complete all her work from yesterday. So, not only was I dealing with my own work, plus all the A/R work (Which I have every Friday anyway), I was also cleaning up and completing her work from Thursday, plus all her work for today, and prepping all her weekend shipments.

Then on top of that she called at least 5 times to tell me other things that needed my attention because she hadn't done them as well.

She's not in on Monday (which I've known for 2 weeks) but of course none of the prep work for that was completed either because she would have completed that today as well.

Thanks for nothing old lady!

I'm on my 2nd double Gin n Tonic...  I think it's gonna be an early night...

#224 The way the World works - ComprehenShawn.

I see what's going on, oh ye fickle Office Gods.

But I will not be dismayed.

I will not be defeated.

You can keep on dropping bombs at my desk, but I will persevere. I have my eyes on the prize and nothing can stop me.

#212 Lunchtime DeleShawn

Who has time for a pesky, time waster like Lunch.

I mean why take a lunch when you can work no-stop through the day?  Fun, right.

I had 5 meetings today that would have taken a total of 6 of my 8.5 hour day.

You can imaging my disappointment when one of the hour long meetings was cancelled.  Admittedly it did grant me a full 3.5 hours with which to complete all my daily tasks, which usually only take me 8.5 hours to complete.

So yea... Lunch time.  Ska-roo you!

Good times.

#176 Document Sorting CompilaShawn

Day three of four...

Exhaustion is beginning to set in. And god-forbid I did something tonight I've never done before... brought work home.

I managed to do just a little over 22 weeks of filing. Well, I didn't file from home, I brought the stack of papers hone, sorted and arranged them so that I can just put everything in the filing cabinets in a couple of minutes.

It took just a little over an hour, but just that would have taken more than 3 at the office, with people coming to my desk, clients calling and other assorted other interruptions.  Normally i try and do it once every 2 weeks, but once it gets out of hand, it's like some monster consuming your desk. And there was no way this beast was getting its due slaying with the way things have been going lately.

I'm glad did it, but hope I never have to bother doing it again. (Fingers crossed)

#170 Productivity InquisiShawn

I was asked today, by management,  why my performance increases on days where I'm pulling double or triple duty (depending on who is not in the dept).

I replied, "Because I'm able to concentrate without constant back-ground questions, conversations, coughing and interruptions."

In reply to that I was told, "You're the second person to give a similar response." ... I'm not surprised.

I think they were expecting me to inquire who else said that, or why they were asking.  I'm not a fish in a pond, I ain't biting . So, why they asked, is a mystery... a mystery I don't care about solving.

#164 Monday RepetiShawn

I mean that in the best way...

The old bird was not in office again today. And even though Fridays are as busy as Mondays, I  got so much work done. The day flew by and wham, bam, thank you ma'am it was 5pm!

Best part... no minute by minute coughing fest!

I can think of no better way to start the weekend.

#160 Monday TeleportaShawn

I woke up this morning, washed, got dressed and made my way to work.

A few minutes later I arrived back at home.

I have circled my day like a goldfish courses around the little purple castle in it's bowl.

In reality, somehow, in between leaving and returning home, I did the work of three people; myself, my co-worker (who called in sick) and the A/R person whom I cover on Fridays and Mondays. I took care of the follow-up of 11 clients that had issues on the weekend. Processed 5 reports. Handled all the incoming orders. Programmed a new cell phone for the office, with 57 contacts / 98 phone numbers.

Any yet, with all of that I had a great day and I don't feel like I did nearly the work I did, nor was gone as long as I usually am.

...not a bad way for start the work week.

#106 Employment ApplicaShawn #2

Well I was called into my Boss' office this afternoon.

He wanted to know if I was sill interested in the position.  I wanted to say, "Does a bear shit in the woods", but instead I said, "Yes. Very much so."

He said he was glad to hear that.

And while it's not mine yet, it seems they shifted how they will be hiring the secondary position... based on my getting Accounts Receivables.

So, nothing is official yet, but it's looking good.

Keeping fingers crossed!

#100 Employment ApplicaShawn

So I've officially applied for a position at work that becomes available as of January 1st 2015.

The current Accounts Receivable person is retiring on Dec 31st, and her position needs to be filled by July for training purposes.

Now, I'm about 65-70% trained in the position as her primary back-up, so it seems to make sense. And given recent events - loss of 4 clients from the region that I'm the Customer Service rep (thanks to lack-luster contract proposals and piss-poor pricing... and the confirmed loss of 3 more next year) it's worth my cementing my position further in the company.

I'd still retain my current responsibilities, but since they're diminishing due to the aforementioned losses, I'll at least have the time. And again, it's about preservation at work.

So... fingers crossed.

#058 Paper Crime Scene InvestigaShawn

If P.C.S.I. were a TV show, my office desk would be ground zero for tonight's episode.

I swore yesterday I wasn't gonna bitch and moan about work... but OMG! Today, OMG!

Seems the Auditors will be back next week and so they sent a few requests on Monday (20 examples in total) that they wanted documents for when they arrive next week.  Invoice and Shipping Docs.

Then on Tuesday they added another 10 examples, and another document (Proof of Delivery) for all 30.

Then yesterday they added another 30 examples (total now of 60)

And then today, as I was collating the last 4 examples, they said they didn't want Shipping Docs and PODs.  They wanted Proofs of Payment.

Thanks for that.

So I've now printed over 2500+ pages, and approx 1000 are now not needed.

Fortunately we have a rule of re-using single printed pages for anything internal and 'scrap' pages are used to print needed documents when they will only be used internally.

Of course everything that got printed for the Auditors was on fresh paper, as we do not want any used pages going out with any info other than what they require.  Thankfully those 1000+ wasted pages WILL be used again, but at the end of the day it was a WASTE of paper!   Not to mention the time wasted, not just by myself  but 2 other people in Finance here and 6 people at our other offices across Canada.

So yea, my desk looks like a cyclone hit a filing cabinet, stacks of paper everywhere. It's basically a crime scene of wasted toner and paper.

I'm sorry Trees. I did not mean to diminish your existence. I swear we will re-use every last page you provided.

#036 EvaluaShawn

Today was a good day.

I had my annual evaluation with my direct Manager and his Manager. It was scheduled to go an hour, but we barely made it to 40 mins. And why? Because apparently I'm awesome! :-)

Okay, I'm not perfect, but I met or surpassed expectations in all categories but one and quite frankly it's because what was assigned was not possible, and he know it. :-)

I was told I'm too hard on myself and too much of a perfectionist. - I have to disagree...  you can never be too much of a perfectionist.

Given the recent changes in the office it's nice to hear such praise and on the record no less. I'm not so naïve as to think that I'm irreplaceable, or that I or the entire office won't be without a job in the days to come but why dwell on that? I'm freaking amazing!

And also, no word from Management if there will be raises or  bonuses, but I feel after today I'll think I'm going to be an optimist on the subject.

In the meantime I must continue to perfect my perfection.

#030 An AutomaShawn Limerick

There once was a lad from Nantucket,
Whose job he wished he could chuck it.
Printing invoices all day,
For the Auditors' fray;
At the end of the day he said 'suck it!'.

So far this week I've printed over a ream's worth of invoices and used  300 paper clips.

Knock wood no paper-cuts.

#029 AutomaShawn II

Oh my god!  Today was yesterday on a loop.

In every way, I am now experiencing my own Groundhog Day.

I fear for tomorrow.

Unlike yesterday however, I managed to squeeze in my lunch today, between 2:45PM and 3:30PM. And I will admit I felt a certain level of satisfaction when, as I was exiting the office and passed the VP and his Assistant and they asked "Leaving early today?" and I replied with "Actually, just going to lunch." to which the VP said, "Ah, the Auditors. I hope your Manager knows this, if not he should."

Oh, he knows, and his boss knows as well.

For now, it's time to eat, catch a little TV and off to bed to watch some netflixed Supernatural...

#028 AutomaShawn

Well it was fun at work today...

As it is, I'm already doing all of my tasks, along with those of the Accounts Receivable department (it's a one person dept...) as the regular person is on vacation this week.

That in itself is manageable, but when you add to that, the fact that our head office in the US has sent up auditors that keep on asking for the Sun, Moon and the Stars to be delivered to them, with a paper copy and an electronic copy if you don't mind, oh and can we have those 3 hours ago? And here's another list.... and another and another.

I think I printed enough invoices, waybills, proofs of delivery and copies of cancelled cheques to wallpaper Versailles!

And the great news is that this was day one of at least three more. Goodie!

My favourite part of the day was explaining to the Auditors that often what they keep asking for, is not available, or simply does not exist. And then tell them again 30 minutes later...

...and then 30 minutes later...

At 3:15pm I noticed, hey! I haven't taken lunch yet. Being the dutiful auto-bot I had not noticed the day go by. So I got up, walked down the hall and told my boss I'd be leaving an hour early on Friday to cover for my lunch today.

...and then I went back to the conference room and told the Auditors that their latest request could not be fulfilled because the documents don't exist.
